PILLER wins the 2026 SAP Innovation Award 
Award for forward-looking IT transformation

PILLER is actively shaping the digital future of its business model—setting new standards for the integration of industrial value creation, data, and artificial intelligence. For this consistent transformation, the company was honored with the SAP Innovation Award 2026—as one of only 19 award-winning companies worldwide and the only one from Germany.

The jury particularly commended the clear strategic approach: PILLER has not only modernized its IT but also repositioned it as a scalable platform for global processes, data-driven decisions, and AI-supported services.

Strategic Modernization of the IT Landscape
At the heart of the transformation project are three key areas of innovation that together shape the company’s digital evolution:

1. Introduction of SAP Cloud ERP in a two-tier model
As part of the global ERP strategy, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition was introduced for the locations in the U.S. and India. This so-called two-tier ERP model enables a clear architecture: While SAP S/4HANA continues to form the backbone as the central platform at headquarters, international subsidiaries are integrated via a standardized cloud solution.

The rollout is currently underway in China as well, supplemented by a locally adapted instance to meet local regulatory requirements.

2. SAP Business Data Cloud as a Unified Data Repository
A key challenge for growing international organizations is the fragmentation of data across different systems. With the introduction of the SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC), PILLER is creating a consistent, company-wide data foundation.

This connects systems such as ERP, sales, and finance, enabling significantly improved data quality and simplified report generation. At the same time, it forms the foundation for future AI applications by providing structured “data products” as a semantic database.

3. AI Agent for Spare Parts Calculation
The technologically outstanding element of the project is the development of an initial AI agent based on SAP Joule Studio. This agent significantly supports the process of creating spare parts and service quotes: When a customer inquiry is received, the agent automatically analyzes the request, identifies the machine in question, suggests suitable spare parts and services, and then creates a complete quote directly in SAP S/4HANA. The use case was successfully implemented using a new product as an example and demonstrates the potential for a significant increase in efficiency in the quotation process.

Technology as a Strategic Competitive Advantage
The transformation at PILLER demonstrates how IT can be consistently developed into a driver of efficiency, scalability, and new business models. Through the standardization of the system landscape, an integrated database, and the targeted use of artificial intelligence, measurable added value is created—ranging from accelerated quotation processes to improved global management.
